PHP is a web scripting language, which is used for creating dynamic web pages. Many well-known and popular web applications such as CMS systems like WordPress, Joomla, Typo3, but also forums or store systems are based on this script language.
Current versions
Due to the continuous development of PHP, there are always new updates for existing versions, completely new versions but also settings of older versions. Below you will find an overview of the currently supported PHP versions in our web hosting packages.
Version | Released at | EOL (End Of Life) at |
---|---|---|
7.3 | 06.12.2018 | 06.12.2021 |
7.4 | 28.11.2019 | 28.11.2022 |
8.0 | 26.11.2020 | 26.11.2023 |
8.1 | 25.11.2021 | 25.11.2024 |
Basically, we recommend using the latest PHP version, as this usually offers the best performance. Before using a PHP version, please always check whether the software you are using (and its modules and plugins) already supports this version. We do not recommend using PHP versions with EOL status, as these no longer receive security updates and can pose a security risk.
Older versions that are no longer supported by PHP will be decommissioned by us after prior notice.
PHP version used
In the user panel you can always check which PHP version is used for your (sub)domain. Simply log in to the user panel, click on “Domains” in the menu on the left and then select the desired (sub)domain. In the pop-up window that appears, you will see the PHP version in use and can easily change it if necessary.
Application incompatibility
Please always check which PHP version is supported by the software you are using. If your software does not support PHP 7.3 or higher, please ask the manufacturer if there is a newer version for the software and please use it.
Please understand that we cannot offer reprogramming of your own scripts to support newer PHP versions (exception: WHMCS programming) and we cannot extend the support of possibly unsafe PHP versions.
